Vegetarian and Vegan

ATW Simeons found it impossible to deal with vegetarians on Cura Romana. I, however, have worked with many vegetarians and find that they do well on the program. In the process, I have discovered some excellent protein alternatives. The principles of the Food Plan are the same for vegetarians as for the rest of us – four foods per meal and so forth. However, there are some great protein alternatives that even non-vegetarians tell me they enjoy while on hCG+Food Plan. If, as a vegetarian, you can include fish and shellfish in your menus this is ideal. It gives a lot of variety and sea foods are an excellent source of easily digested top-quality protein.

Vegetarians And Vegans

Here are some foods you can use as your protein source in place of meat or chicken:

  1. White fish, from sole to cod to flounder, etc.
  2. Prawns, shrimps, squid/calamari, lobster or crayfish.
  3. An omelet made from one whole egg and three egg whites, cooked, of course, in a non-stick pan without oil.
  4. 100g of non-fat cottage cheese.
  5. A smoothie made from 1 1⁄2 scoops of good-quality sugar-free micro-filtered whey. Vanilla works well since it is easy to mix with green vegetables or a piece of fruit. You can use your fruit allowances – strawberries, an orange, an apple – to make smoothies using microfiltered whey. Add some cinnamon or nutmeg if you wish. Best of all make a green smoothie whole 'meal' containing 1 1⁄2 scoops of micro-filtered whey plus your allowance of raw green vegetables. Be sure to check that whatever you buy to make smoothies from contains no sugars of any kind including xylitol. These are not allowed on hCG+Food Plan.

The best of all of these special wheys I have found so far — and my personal favorite – is Vital Whey. It is the best quality easily assimilated protein-rich product I have found anywhere. It comes in Chocolate and Vanilla. Solgar's microfiltered whey comes in several flavors and is available in many countries. In the Southern Hemisphere Red 8 is good.

I have mentored many vegetarians and vegans.   If you are a vegan however, this does limit enormously the variety of foods you are able to choose from while you are on hCG+Food Plan.   If you are a vegan you will need to rely for the protein portion of your meals on protein powders made from rice protein, pea protein or hemp protein
